Learning and Changing Norms: December, 2016 The upcoming Social Philosophy and Policy conference will be held December 2016 in Tucson, AZ. This conference is titled "Learning and Changing Norms" and we encourage invited authors to explore broad questions concerning the origin, development, and function of norms, such as: How do social norms provide a framework for social and economic cooperation? Are social norms part of a spontaneous order? What do recent attempts to engineer norm change tell us? Can public policy succeed if it conflicts with basic norms? Papers from this conference will be featured in the summer 2018 issue of Social Philosophy and Policy. Guest editors are Gerald Gaus and Shawn Nichols. The conference promises to be an engaging and productive weekend, from which all of our authors will take key developments in their work. Please contact us with any additional questions. About SPP Conferences Each of our two yearly conferences culminates in an issue of the journal Social Philosophy and Policy featuring work on a specific topic that blends together theoretical questions in political philosophy with the practical concerns of public policy. About the Journal The journal was established over 30 years ago by Ellen Frankel Paul, Jeffrey Paul and Fred Miller at Bowling Green State University's Social Philosophy and Policy Center. It now boasts a paid circulation of over 7900, by far the largest circulation among philosophy journals in the Anglo-American world. The semi-annual issues are thematic in format. Our editorial team (Editor: David Schmidtz, Associate Editors: Carmen Pavel and Bas van der Vossen) aims to honor the journal's tradition of examining the philosophical underpinnings and the economic, political, and legal dimensions of enduring social policy debates.
